About Me

My name is Mubarak Alsaleh and I am senior majoring Chemical Engineering at The University of Alabama. I will be graduating in May of 2018 with BSc in Chemical engineering and minor in graphic design. My education and experiences here at UA provided with so much opportunities to get high quality education as well as excellent preparation for chemical job market. I am an international student who came to the U.S. in 2012 to San Diego state University with Zero ability to speak English and struggled with even asking for directions. I moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. Where I learned to cope with cold weather and snow as well as determination to learn English to fluency. I went through several embarrassing situations where I forced myself to go out and to try to speak to people. I entered every corner of Fort Collins carrying dictionary with aim of learning English. I visited grocery shops, police stations, bus station drivers, homeless people, churches, Salvation Army, fire stations, dog shelters, Islamic centers, Buddhist monastery, libraries, liquor shops, restaurants, clinics, bars, gyms. I literally stopped people everywhere I went to shake their hands and high five them and tell them about vocab I learned each day which was absolutely crazy! My entire day from 7am till 12am struggle to learn English and I learned to speak fluently after struggle since middle school. Colorado, built my esteem and confidence. The journey of getting out of comfort zone got me involved and led me to where I am currently, studying chemical engineering at the University of Alabama.  Chemical Engineering is very challenging major, I like it because it incorporated everything I hated in High school and struggled with and now close to graduating, I can’t believe the progress I made. Now I can solve hard engineering math problems, I understand chemical equations and computer-simulated designing of pipes, reactors, large chemical plants. I achieved most of my goals and the University of Alabama has helped me like my major and prepared me for Oil and Petroleum industry.
